Abstract: Systems research can look intimidating from the outside: technically demanding, hard to enter, and disconnected from the things students care about. In this talk, I’ll share how the Broadening Undergraduate Research Group for Systems (BURGS) breaks that perception barrier by creating a welcoming community where undergraduates can engage directly in hands-on HPC systems research — and what we learned from more than 200 graduates along the way.
